Community Advocacy & EngagementProject: Systems of Change Government 101 Workshop
The Government 101 Workshop Series is a foundational political education program at SCOPE, designed to empower community members with knowledge of government structures and their direct impact on local policies. The workshop equips participants with tools to navigate and influence systems of power, fostering critical conversations about governance, policy-making, and civic engagement.

Key Highlights:
  • Attendance: 124 participants during the first run.
  • Survey Insights: Informed future programming and community engagement strategies.
  • Impact: Empowered attendees to take actionable steps toward systemic change.

My Role:
  • Designed and facilitated the workshop series, aligning content with community needs.

Content CreationProject: Who Is SCOPE?
“Who Is SCOPE?” is an introductory video that educates stakeholders on SCOPE’s mission, impact, and role as a policy advocacy organization for working-class communities. The video serves as an essential tool for onboarding new members, partners, and funders, effectively breaking down SCOPE’s work in economic, racial, and environmental justice through engaging visuals and storytelling.

Key Highlights:
    • Purpose: Provides a clear and compelling overview of SCOPE’s organizing and policy work.
    • Audience: Designed for community members, funders, and partners to deepen engagement with SCOPE.
    • Screening: Premiered at SCOPE’s Roots & Bloom 30-Year Anniversary Fundraising Gala to an audience of over 250 attendees.
    • Impact: Strengthened public understanding of grassroots power-building and the organization’s advocacy efforts.

My Role:
    • Developed the script and key storytelling elements to make complex policy advocacy accessible.
    • Directed visual storytelling to align with SCOPE’s organizing goals.
    • Collaborated with filmmaker Ryan Garcia, who filmed and edited the final product.
    •  Conceptualized the entire video, from narrative structure to messaging strategy.

Creative Direction & BrandingProject: 26 Athletics
Contributed to 26 Athletics as the designer, photographer, editor, graphic designer, and visual creative. Additionally, Zaakiyah served as marketer and executive producer for the podcast For The Run, featuring influential figures from the running community.

Impact: Delivered a comprehensive branding package and multi-platform rollout, enhancing audience engagement and visibility.

My Role: Designed visuals, captured photos, and managed the digital campaign.

Digital CommunicationsProject: Ghetto Running Day
Promoted the Hoods Run LA 5K through dynamic visuals and storytelling on Instagram, celebrating Global Running Day while reclaiming space for BIPOC runners.

Key Highlights:
  • Metrics: Reels Performance: 32,032 plays, 943 interactions. Attendance: 200 participants.
  • Impact: Increased event participation by 33% compared to the previous year.

  • Conceptualized and executed the campaign strategy.
